Marketplace - Affordable Care Act

Family of four enjoying breakfast together at the kitchen table.

The Marketplace is the only place to get individual and family health insurance that covers preexisting conditions.  Many myths exist about the Marketplace and who is eligible.  Anyone can get a plan during the Open Enrollment window 11/1-12/15.  Let me reiterate this point: ANYONE.  However, it may not be in your best interest and I will help you figure that out.

Outside of the Open Enrollment window you need a Special Election Period. This usually involves a divorce, job loss, loss of Medicaid, or loss of other creditable coverage.

Please see my quoting tools if you would like a no-obligation quote or you may fill out this form.

Short-Term Health

Colorful umbrellas floating in a bright sky at sunset.

Short-term health insurance plans are private individual plans designed to fill a gap in your insurance needs, lasting from 1 month up to 3 years depending on your state of residence. They are individual health plans you can get anytime, but you must answer qualifying health questions.  They provide a PPO option that is not Affordable Care Act compliant, so be cognisant of the timing when a plan ends. This could leave you uninsurable temporarily.

Likely reasons for Short Term:

  • You missed the Affordable Care Act Open Enrollment.
  • Waiting for benefits to start with a new employer.
  • Unemployed and need temporary coverage.
  • On COBRA looking for a temporary lower cost replacement.
  • Less than a year from Medicare and want an affordable catastrophic PPO option.

PPO plans offering a unique new option designed for healthy individuals and families. It is a self-funded large group health plan offered to individuals and families who agree to these two steps:

  1. You must answer these health questions (all members on the policy) with a No.
  2. The primary applicant will assume a part-time employment role with responsibilities similar to any other employment opportunity. It consists of answering health questionnaires throughout the year for which you get paid and completing appropriate tax forms. It's a part-time employment role under 2 hours annually.

These two requiremnts provides access to the self-funded ERISA large group health benefits offered by LifeX Research Corporation.

I am careful about the companies I choose to represent. I seek stability and strongly rated companies over fly by night companies that come and go in the market.
